Intermittent Fasting
π Intermittent Fasting π
There are several different ways to fast
such as;
πΈ️The 16/8 Method
πΈ️The 5:2 Diet
πΈ️The Warrior Diet
πΈ️The Alternate Day Fast
πΈ️The Weekly 24 Hour Fast
And the list goes on.
Intermittent Fasting has become a HUGE trend! The most common ones that I tend to hear people talk about are the 5:2 Diet and the 16/8 Method. But what are they?
π» The 5:2 Diet - Involves eating as you would normally for 5 days then restricting your calorie intake to 500-600 for the remaining 2 days of the week.
π» The 16/8 Method: Involves fasting for 16 hours each day then eating within an allocated 8 hour window.
Although both methods of fasting are exploding in popularity the 16/8 method seems to be the most commonly tried amongst both men and women.
So what are the Pros and Cons of the 16/8 method?
Let's delve into it a little more...
Pros:
πΉ️It can lead to greater weight loss and fat loss
πΉ️Helps prevent cancer
πΉ️It reduces insulin resistance which lowers the risk of diabetes
πΉ️Improves brain functions
πΉ️Enhances longevity
Cons:
πΈ️It is not advisable for those with heavy training schedules
πΈ️Going without food for long periods of time can trigger stressors within the body
πΈ️You may experience adrenal fatigue and find that your energy levels may start to decrease
The 16/8 method has been said to be safe, straightforward and easy to follow because of it's flexibility. Also there are no restrictions on the amounts or types of foods that a person can consume within the 8 hour window. Which means that calorie counting is NOT necessary. However, that DOESN'T mean that you should go and indulge in Pizza or McDonald's π«πππππ«
Some people may find it useful to eat between 9am - 5pm or perhaps 12pm - 8pm. I guess you can say that it can be a trial and error process. Everyone is different and would need to find times that are more suited to their lifestyle.
...
✖ Please bare in mind that this is not for everyone!
‼ Also, I DO NOT recommend intermittent fasting if you suffer with diabetes, kidney/heart conditions, eating disorders or if you are pregnant or under the age of 18 ‼
